21 Days of Health and Happiness

I seriously think I’m starting to suffer from that seasonal affective disorder (SAD – coincidentally). It’s so cold, I don’t want to leave my house. The sleet and ice – ughhh. Joel and I could not be any more different in that aspect. He loves the snow and winter weather, and I want summer sun all year long. MELISSA HOW DO YOU LIVE IN ALASKA!?! During the winter months (which feels like Oct-April in Altoona) I just want to stay under my covers and eat comfort food and sleep. All. Day. But seriously, chili, cornbread, hot wings, chocolate, my fluffy pillow, wintery beers, a down comforter and a good chick flick. How good does that sound right now? Good..for about an hour and then I’m right back to being #sadz again. It’s still cold and I just feel worse about myself after eating all that food. But it’s that instant gratification that I love. And I am not alone.

“Most people’s mindsets are in an instant gratification trap. If you took a bite of a Big Mac and immediately fell to the ground clutching your chest from a heart attack, you might not go back for the second bite. If that first forkful of cake instantly put fifty pounds on your frame, saying “no thank you” to dessert would be much easier. The problem is that the payoff of instant gratification derived from bad habits often far outweighs what’s going on in your rational mind concerning long-term consequences! Indulging in our bad habits doesn’t seem to have any negative effects at all in the moment…but you’ve activated the compound effect of doing these bad habits consistently”-Darren Hardy; The Compound Effect (great book btw – you should definitely read it).

We all want immediate results. But to be truly happy, we need more than that.

So instead of curling under the blankets with a sappy movie and a bunch of crap food, I’ll get my body and mind ready for the beach and sun:) And in perfect time for the launch of 21 Day Fix Extreme! I am so pumped for this program, I can’t even explain it. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of Extreme and workout with Autumn! I love her. We’re basically besties.image

The workout is extreme, that is for sureee. I was so sore the next day. So. Sore. But I LOVE that feeling 🙂

So what does 21 day fix have to do with happiness? Well, first of all, the results are amazing.  Just look at Jenna’s transformation in only 21 days!! The program teaches you the importance of portion control and exercise as part of your DAILY routine. When you workout, your body releases endorphins, which trigger a positive feeling in the body. Endorphins act as analgesics, which means they diminish the perception of pain. Regular exercise has been proven to reduce stress, ward off anxiety and feelings of depression, boost self-esteem, and improve sleep.

ad0f97d904a5ccbf2e008de27a423105And, as my girl Cameron Diaz puts it,  “As you begin to learn more and more about your body something amazing starts to happen: you begin to transform, on the inside and outside. You start to see how being healthy brings HAPPINESS into your life, how good it feels to be strong and able, how feeling good on the inside has an effect on EVERYTHING ELSE YOU DO!”

Are you ready to transform, on the inside and outside? I’m looking for 10 people to do either the 21 Day Fix or 21 Day Fix EXTREME with me! Get out of that instant gratification trap! Let’s hold each other accountable and start working on long-term, REAL HAPPINESS!

The plan:

  • 21 days of clean eating, portion control, Shakeology and the fix workouts
  • ME as your coach
  • An accountability group that will help you stay motivated and focused throughout your journey
  • Start cutting out bad habits and develop good, healthy ones! It takes 21 days to make or break a habit!
  • Added twist! We’ll start each day posting what we are thankful for! photo 4
  • Why? Because the world looks, acts, and responds to you very differently when you start your day with a feeling of gratitude for that which you already have. (another Compound Effect principal–seriously, you should read this book)

So, if you are looking to:

  1. Stay focused on your weightloss goals
  2. Surround yourself with people who lift you up
  3. Get awesome recipes, tips, and motivation
  4. Focus on all the amazing things in our lives that too often go unnoticed

  1. Haha!! Alaska is definitely a challenge with all of the darkness. The trick is to stay busy and get outside! You need to embrace the cold and darkness and wear many, many …. many layers!!!
